Description: This session will consider the development of the labor movement in the United States. It will address the struggle between labor and capital during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In addition to presenting the diverse ways in which American workers organized labor unions and fought to achieve meaningful legal and political status in the United States, this session also will challenge readers to think carefully about the roles of violence, bigotry, racism, and sexism in the labor movement.
